Denzel Washington is a famous actor, director, and producer who has, over the span of more than forty years in the industry, won three Golden Globe awards, a Tony Award and two Academy Awards.
He took a lot of time to decide what he should study in school. One thing led to another and he thought about trying his luck in acting. He studied acting at Fordham University moving on to the American Conservatory Theatre.
His first play was Wings of the morning but his actual, big break was when he starred as Dr. Phillip Chandler in NBC’s drama, St. Elsewhere and was one of the very few African-Americans to have been on the show. He also appeared in movies such as Hard Lessons and Power.
In 1989, he won the Academy award for best supporting actor in the movie Glory, where he portrayed a self-possessed ex-slave. In 1991, he played a very controversial role of a black nationalist, albeit earning him another nomination for The Academy Award for best actor.
In 2000, he appeared in a Disney Movie called Remember the Titans, which grossed over $100, Million. He went on to direct a movie called Antwone Fisher, which was acclaimed as a drama, co-starring in the movie as well.
He has played the title role in Richard III, as well as in the Broadway Production of Julius Ceaser. In 2014, he has played the lead role in Broadway production of leading drama, A raisin in the Sun.
As of 2016, he has starred in a remake movie of the star-studded movie, The Magnificent Seven. He is currently working on another of his own directorial effort in the movie, Fences which is set to release at the end of the year.
